Announced early this morning, the US Open Cup government body paired Sonoma County Sol with Orange County Blue Stars of the PDL Division. The Sol will travel down to Irvine, California to play the first round match at Concordia University, June 9th, 2:00 PM Pacific Time.
The PDL or Premier Developmental League is considered fourth tier level in America’s Soccer Pyramid. It is the amateur league of the United Soccer League or USL played in the United States and Canada. NPSL and PDL are of equivalence in regards to the amateur status given to players and the fourth tier level.
A bit of history of the Blue Stars is given on the following page:

In 2008, the Blue Stars finished 8th in the Southwest Division of the PDL and did not qualify for the PDL Playoffs or the Open Cup. Currently in 2009, the Blue Stars have turned their troubles into success and are 4-0-1 and 2nd in the Southwest Division standings, behind newly formed Hollywood United Hitmen. David Ponce leads the Blue Stars in goals and total points with 4 and 9 respectively.
The Sol looked to continue their success and hard work one game at a time. This coming weekend, the Sol travel up to Oregon to play the South Oregon Fuego on Saturday at 7:00 PM. The Sol will then travel back down to the Bay Area where they are matched up to play the Bay Area Ambassadors on Sunday at 3:00 PM in Hayward, California.
